A CANVAS OF BEAUTIFUL POSSIBILITIES
The incomparable Vincent van Gogh once said, “I dream my painting and then I paint my dream.” If art captures your imagination and makes you dream, you’ll fall in love with the Gloria Kingma Art Studio, located on Alder Street in Dunnville.
Established by renowned local painter Gloria Kingma, her studio is a place where dreams take shape and come to life as brilliant works of art. A successful and award-winning artist and art teacher, Gloria uses her charmingly rustic studio space to express herself and, equally important, to educate others in tapping into their own creativity and expressing themselves.
As an artist, Gloria’s goal is to capture those moments of profound and enduring beauty, which are all around us, yet we may not even notice them. “My work depicts the beauty of nature’s creations,” explains Gloria. “Whether it’s the flow of colours or the way light dances across a landscape, I try to portray the essence of nature’s immense beauty and diversity. There really is no shortage of inspiration when your subject is the natural world. It’s complex and simple at the same time.”
Born in Welland, Ontario, Gloria’s artistic interests and endeavours were evident from an early age. Over the years, she transformed her passion into a truly singular artistic style and approach, continually evolving and refining her talent and techniques. “You never really stop growing as an artist,” reveals Gloria. “There’s always something more to learn, something new to discover. I’ve never been bored with my work. That in itself is a blessing.”
This dedication to learning and discovery not only drives her artwork, but also her passion for teaching. She takes great joy in sharing her talent, perspective, and wisdom with her students. Having taught watercolour, acrylic, and pastel for over 15 years has in turn expanded her personal journey and growth as an artist.
Primarily self-taught, Gloria works equally well in all mediums, building layer upon layer of transparent colour to create the beauty and depth for which her work is known. Gloria is proud to be a certified member of the Pastel Artists Association of Canada, a testament to her talents and accomplishments.
Not far from the shores of the Grand River and Lake Erie, Gloria’s studio is located in a century-old brick building, complete with creaky hardwood floors and an abundance of natural light – perfect for capturing the moment in a painting. She feels blessed to have such an inspirational workspace in which to create and teach others.
“Our studio provides so much inspiration for me, and perhaps even more importantly, for my students,” notes Gloria. As one of her students says, ”What I like most about her studio space is the brightness that the many large windows provide, even on the dullest, dreariest days.”
Painting primarily in the mediums of watercolour, acrylic oils, and pastels, Gloria’s subjects are colourful, vivid, and brimming with the wonder of life. From majestic landscapes and architecture to vibrant streetscapes, floral scenes and still life to animals and portraits, Gloria’s work is as diverse as it is dazzling. Don’t be surprised if there are several places, and maybe even faces, that you recognize.
Her signature products include individual and sets of art cards, oil on canvas in a range of dimensions, and her always-popular art classes. Visit Gloria’s Facebook page for more information on her artwork, studio hours, and class schedules. Select pieces are also available for viewing and sale at the Art Service Supply on Queen Street in Dunnville.

Gloria’s friendly and easy-going nature as a teacher make students of all levels, from beginners to proficient painters, feel welcomed and inspired to be the best artists that they can be. “The added benefits aside from learning from Gloria’s artistic expertise is that I am also enjoying the friendly interactions and camaraderie between other fantastic artistically-minded women,” shares one of Gloria’s recent students. “It’s always a great day when it’s Art Class Day!”
We think Vincent himself would wholeheartedly agree!
